October & November in Hocking Hills: Peak Fall Color, Cozy Cabins & Crisp Trail Days
By Oak & Oar Retreats · September 27, 2026
There's a short, magical window every year when Hocking Hills feels like it was made just for you: the maples and oaks ignite in reds and golds, the summer crowds thin out, and the evenings turn cool enough to justify a fire and a long soak in the hot tub. That window is October and November — and it's our favorite time to be here.
Why October & November Are the Best Months in Hocking Hills
- Peak fall color. The hills typically hit peak foliage from mid-October into early November. Ash Cave, Old Man's Cave, and Cedar Falls are framed in color, and the overlooks along Conkle's Hollow are at their best.
- Quieter trails. After the summer rush, weekday hikes feel almost private. Even weekends are calmer once November arrives.
- Perfect hiking weather. Daytime highs in the 50s and 60s mean no summer humidity — just crisp air and crunchy leaves underfoot.
- Cabin season. Cool nights were made for hot tubs, fire pits, and movie nights. This is what our cabins do best.
Our Favorite Fall Moments
Ash Cave at golden hour — just 3 miles (about 5 minutes) from our cabins, the waterfall and recess cave glow in late-afternoon light with color reflected everywhere. Cedar Falls runs strong after autumn rains, and the John Glenn Astronomy Park is at its finest on clear fall nights — some of the darkest skies in Ohio, perfect for stargazing after dinner.
When you're ready to come in from the cold, Logan's food and brewery scene is minutes away — including 58 West, one of our go-to spots for a relaxed dinner and a local pint.
Where to Stay: Our Two Hocking Hills Cabins
Hill Yea!
Our flagship retreat — room for the whole crew, a hot tub under the stars, a sauna for post-hike recovery, and a game room for rainy-day tournaments. It's the cabin for groups who want adventure outside and cozy inside. See Hill Yea! →
Whittle Escape
Intimate, woodsy, and made for slower mornings — coffee on the deck while the fog lifts off the hills, then straight out to the trails. Perfect for couples or small families. See Whittle Escape →
